Blxthe and the Art of the Exclamation Mark on IT'S A DISASTER!
Blxthe and the Art of the Exclamation Mark on IT’S A DISASTER!
The 21-Year-Old UK Artist Shouts in Capitals, Sings in Melody and Self-Produces the Closers
Every song title on the new EP from Blxthe comes in capitals with an exclamation mark, and Blxthe called the record IT’S A DISASTER! He built its six tracks as indie rock and pop with a raw, grungey edge. Then he put the name on the cover in small, lowercase handwriting, over a road at night. Loud lettering, quiet picture. The record, out since 18 September 2026, lives in the gap between the two.
Blxthe’s NEED YOU!, the opening track of IT’S A DISASTER!, is in the AltPop.News playlist below, with every review of the EP gathered on the Blxthe profile. The EP reached this desk through PopHits.Co Music Charts, which verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news sites. Press play, then read on for how the six songs were built.

Four Singles and Two New Songs Shape How Blxthe Arranged IT’S A DISASTER! Across Fifteen Minutes
The styling arrived in stages. The exclamation mark first appeared in lowercase on warzone! in April 2025, then on move on! and wake up!. From NEED YOU! in August 2025, the titles also went to capitals. Every Blxthe release since has followed the rule: TRAGEDY!, REMEMBER ME!, ME!, TIME’S UP!, ESCAPE!, MAKE IT RAIN! and now the EP itself.
That run also explains the shape of the EP. Four of its six songs came out as singles first. NEED YOU! arrived in August 2025 and TRAGEDY! in September 2025. ESCAPE! followed in July 2026, then MAKE IT RAIN! in August. The last two, HEAR ME OUT! and CAN’T GO BACK!, arrived new on release day.
Six Songs, Fifteen Minutes, No Song Over Three and a Quarter
Above all, the arrangement favours speed. The EP runs just over 15 minutes, and no song passes three and a quarter minutes. NEED YOU! opens it at 1:45, the shortest song in the Blxthe catalogue. TRAGEDY! is close behind at 1:59, and ESCAPE! follows at 2:30.
MAKE IT RAIN! is the longest track at 3:11, placed fourth. After it, the sequence settles into the two closers at 2:56 and 2:43. Short runtimes suit a record built around melodic vocals and energetic production. As a result, Blxthe leaves the hook little room to hide on IT’S A DISASTER!

HEAR ME OUT! and CAN’T GO BACK! Show Blxthe Producing His Own Raw, Grungey Indie Rock
The production story sits at the end. Blxthe produced the last two tracks, HEAR ME OUT! and CAN’T GO BACK!, entirely himself. They are also the only two songs on the EP that had not been released before. So the newest material is also the most hands-on, and it closes the record.
The wider catalogue, meanwhile, shows where that sound came from. Apple Music files his first single, Far Away from May 2023, under hip-hop and rap. Since then it has filed his singles under alternative, pop, singer-songwriter and, once, house. Along the way he also guested on other artists’ singles, including eyes on me, FUMF and Need A Break in 2024.
Apple Music still files IT’S A DISASTER! under hip-hop and rap, even though the EP leans into indie rock and pop. In other words, the label on the shelf has not caught up with the sound.

The Neighbourhood and Yungblud Show How Rock Can Carry Hip-Hop Roots and a Strong Visual Identity
That route has precedents. The Neighbourhood, the Californian band behind Sweater Weather, are described as alternative and indie rock with elements of hip hop and R&B. In 2014 they released a mixtape titled #000000 & #FFFFFF, the hex codes for black and white, with guests including YG and Danny Brown. Their second album, Wiped Out!, followed in 2015.
Yungblud, meanwhile, took a mix of alternative rock, pop-punk and hip-hop to the top of the UK Albums Chart with Weird! in 2020. Both acts are useful markers for Blxthe. Each makes rock and pop with hip-hop in its history. Each also has a firm idea of how a release should look, exclamation marks included. Together, they help place Blxthe and his new EP, IT’S A DISASTER!
For that reason, the record suits listeners who like their indie rock short and stylised. It also suits anyone following artists who arrived at guitars by way of hip-hop and alt-pop.
The AltPop.News curator team: “The capitals do the shouting so the vocals do not have to. On IT’S A DISASTER! the melody stays in charge, and the grungey edge frames it rather than drowning it out.”
Where to Hear IT’S A DISASTER! by Blxthe and Watch the Milo Smith Video for TRAGEDY!
Blxthe released IT’S A DISASTER! on 18 September 2026, and the full EP is in the Spotify player at the top of this page. TRAGEDY! also has an official video, released on 13 September 2026, five days before the EP. Milo Smith directed it, with Alex Beije as cinematographer, Piers Gardner as gaffer and Ben Rush filming behind the scenes. The cover photo itself is credited to @milosmith.
The merchandise carries the same styling. The official shop sells a TRAGEDY! tee, and saving the EP through its pre-save page enters fans into a draw for one. It is a small detail. Even so, it shows a release planned as one object, from song title to shirt.
